Olive
Massimiliano Roncatti 2018
Motherhood is not depicted; it is constructed.
Two autonomous forms intersect without merging: one embraces, while the other grows within it. The void becomes the place where the relationship unfolds, suggesting that life first exists as a possibility of space and only later as a physical presence.
The sculpture does not represent a mother and a child, but the universal principle of generation: every beginning is a dialogue between what contains and what is contained.
Its continuous surfaces dissolve any hierarchy between interior and exterior, transforming the stone into a single flowing form. Matter does not dominate the void; rather, the void completes the form.
Syntax: To generate is to create the space in which another form can

Clockwork Olive reveals an impossible mechanism: the heart of the olive. The gears carved into the green onyx do not belong to technology; instead, they become a metaphor for the invisible order that governs nature's time, where every cycle of life repeats with the precision of a clockwork.
The antique olive press mat, once used in the traditional extraction of olive oil, preserves the memory of human labor, while the onyx, formed over geological ages, carries the memory of the Earth. The encounter between these two materials brings together distant times, suggesting that nature is the oldest and most perfect machine of all.
