Un piede accademico in gesso, emblema della tradizione scultorea e dell'insegnamento artistico, indossa un semplice infradito. Sulla fascia compare la scritta Holiday, come fosse un marchio, accompagnata dalla bandiera italiana.
L'opera mette in relazione due universi apparentemente inconciliabili: la permanenza della forma classica e la leggerezza del tempo libero. Il gesso custodisce la memoria dell'arte, mentre l'infradito richiama il viaggio, il turismo e il consumo dell'immagine.
Holiday riflette su una contraddizione profondamente italiana: un Paese che fonda gran parte della propria identità culturale sull'immenso patrimonio del passato, ma che troppo spesso fatica a riconoscere e sostenere la ricerca artistica del presente. L'arte contemporanea rischia così di occupare un ruolo marginale, mentre il patrimonio storico viene trasformato in attrazione turistica.
Con una sottile ironia, l'opera suggerisce che una cultura incapace di investire nella propria creatività viva finisce per camminare con lo sguardo rivolto soltanto alle proprie orme.
An academic plaster foot, emblematic of sculptural tradition and artistic training, wears a simple flip-flop. Across its strap appears the word Holiday, treated as a commercial brand, accompanied by the Italian flag.
The work brings together two seemingly incompatible worlds: the permanence of classical form and the lightness of leisure. The plaster preserves the memory of art, while the flip-flop evokes travel, tourism, and the consumption of images.
Holiday reflects on a deeply rooted Italian contradiction: a country that builds much of its cultural identity upon the immense legacy of its past, yet too often struggles to recognize and support the artistic research of the present. Contemporary art thus risks remaining on the margins, while historical heritage is increasingly reduced to a tourist attraction.
With subtle irony, the sculpture suggests that a culture unable to invest in its living creativity ultimately walks with its gaze fixed only on its own footprints.
